Debit Cards

Allow Online / Overseas Purchase

1. Can I use my debit card at Online or Overseas Purchase immediately after activated it via AmOnline?
No, you need to manually enable the usage for online and overseas purchase.

To enable it, go to AmOnline app > tap “Account” at bottom menu > tap “Cards” > tap on the debit card you want to enable the services > tap “Manage” > change the toggle of “Allow Online Purchase” and “Allow Overseas Purchase & ATM”.
2. Why should I enable online purchase and overseas purchase & ATM manually for my debit card?
In line with Bank Negara Malaysia’s regulations, all financial institutions and issuers are mandated to default and/or block any debit cardholders from making any online and overseas transactions that are not authenticated via strong authentication method such as dynamic password, unless the cardholder has expressly opted-in to conduct such transactions.

Therefore, if you would like to perform transactions outside of Malaysia using your debit card such as oversea point-of-sale purchases (“POS”), or cash withdrawal at oversea ATM, you would need to allow the overseas purchase & ATM for your debit card.

Note: To perform overseas online transactions (e.g. Amazon US), please enable both overseas purchase & ATM AND internet/online purchase under usage settings.
3. Will the change in usage settings be effective immediately?
Yes, once your debit card is activated for overseas/online usage, it can be used immediately for online/overseas transactions.
4. Do I need to allow my debit card every time if I want to use it for overseas or internet/online transactions?
No, you only need to activate your debit card once, and the debit card will be perpetually activated, until you choose to deactivate the usage in Settings.
5. What happens if I do not allow my debit card for overseas/online usage?
In this case, all your overseas or internet/online transactions will be declined.
